Racing Backwards

Miami has gotten so vegan friendly. I love it. So many vegan restaurants and new businesses have opened recently. It’s crazy. Some have been around for a while, but I feel like the vegan miami has gained a lot more visibility. There’s a new cookie company that’s awesome. A new cafe opened and was then featured in a national magazine. I went to the farmer’s market today and a new vegan stand was open. AND IT WAS A CARIBBEAN VEGAN CUISINE STAND! The only other Caribbean vegan stand I’m used to seeing is a raw vegan stand, and the prices are outrageous. This guy was crazy nice, and his mother has been vegan for 50 (FIFTY!) years. I bought “gluten chunks” from him, along with coconut drop cookies (which are really good, very Caribbean. They’re chewy and slightly sweet, with subtle spices and raisins. They be perfect with coffee and tea). He also had vegan mac and cheese squares, and he threw in a loaf of whole wheat bread for free. He’s my new best friend. 

He also had these great tofu fritters, they weren’t oily and were light and fluffy. So lovely. I’m going to get that next time I go, but I’ll pick up some chutney for them. That’d be really yummy. They are “spicy”, but I feel like they’d only be spicy if you are American, and therefore totally unused to peppers. My dad can’t cook anything without adding five hundred million peppers, so I’m totally used to it. All the Guyanese food in my house is super spicy.
